The Story of Niseko Koropokkuru Bike Park
The story of Niseko Koropokkuru Bike Park began simply, driven by a deep passion.
“Keep riding bikes” – that was the starting point of it all.
In 2021, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the only mountain bike park in Niseko at the time closed its doors. Suddenly, local riders, especially children, lost a place to ride. But we didn’t give up.
With the warm cooperation of a local family who are also MTB riders, we borrowed a small corner of farmland. It wasn’t a special place, just a small bit of dirt. But from scratch, with only our hands and personal funds, we built a skills park with a pump track and three dirt jump lanes.
At first, it was used as a spot for the Niseko Kids MTB Club, but gradually, we opened it up to local riders who shared the same passion.
As we spent more time in this place, we realized that we could also use the surrounding forest. From there, we decided to create a trail network in this beautiful natural setting.
We spent about a month and a half, working together to cut down the tall, dense “sasa” or bamboo grass unique to Hokkaido. It was not an easy task. The bamboo was thick and strong, and the terrain was often steep and unstable. We carefully and slowly cleared the path by hand, piece by piece.
In 2022, we officially began developing trails as NINE LLC. Our goal at Koropokkur Bike Park was to create nine unique trails, each with its own character, inspired by our company name.
The theme we have always cherished is simple:
“A bike park that is truly beginner-friendly.”
We want children, adults, beginners, and experienced riders alike to enjoy the moment—feeling the wind on their cheeks, the earth beneath their tires, and riding through the sun-dappled forest. This is the kind of place we want to create, where everyone can enjoy every second of the ride at their own pace.
While exploring the forest, we also discovered that this place is a natural forest full of diverse plants and creatures. It’s a place that heals just by being inside it.
The experience of riding a bike through this vibrant, life-filled forest is sure to be something special.
